    The Council is currently holding further informal consultations on the situation in Côte d’Ivoire, following a briefing by the head of UNOCI, Choi Young-jin, via videoconferencing today. The tensions resulting from the disputed 28 November presidential elections are of increasing concern and Council members have been engaged in.

    In December the Council is expected to consider the Secretary-General’s report on Côte d’Ivoire. The mandate of the UN peacekeeping mission UNOCI expires on 31 December and in light of the ongoing gravity of the situation the Council is expected to renew it.

    In early November the Council will be briefed by the Department of Peacekeeping Operations on the situation in Côte d’Ivoire and the work of UNOCI, and in particular the elections (which at press time remained on track to take place on the 31 October). The mandate of UNOCI expires on 31 December.
