    On 9 April the Sanctions Committee on Côte d’Ivoire is expected to consider the advice of the Group of Experts on the sanctions regime (i.e. arms embargo, travel bans, assets freeze and diamond sanctions). The chairman of the committee will brief the Council in mid-April. The sanctions measures and the mandate of the Group of Experts expire on 31 October.

    In March the UN Department for Peacekeeping Operations will brief the Council on the situation in Côte d’Ivoire. While no Council decision is envisaged, many Council members are concerned about recent developments and will be watching the security situation closely. They are likely to be guided by the recommendations from the field. The mandate of UNOCI expires 31 May.

The Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Côte d’Ivoire, Choi Young-jin, is likely to brief the Council.

    The Council is expected to renew the mandate of the UN Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI) which expires on 31 July. It will consider the Secretary-General’s report, due by 10 July, and is expected to be briefed by the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Côte d’Ivoire, Choi Young-jin.

Also in April, the Council’s Sanctions Committee on Côte d’Ivoire is expected to conduct a review of the sanctions regime, (the Group of Experts submitted its midterm report to the sanctions committee in late March).

    The Council expects to receive a report from the Secretary-General on Côte d’Ivoire’s electoral process by 15 October. Keeping the 30 November presidential election on track is expected to be a priority for the Council. The mandate of the UN Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI), which ends on 31 January, is not expected to be discussed.

    The Council will review the Secretary-General’s report, due 15 April, on preparations for the electoral process in Côte d’Ivoire. The sanctions’ Group of Experts is expected to submit its interim report to the Côte d’Ivoire Sanctions Committee. The Council will review the sanctions regime, particularly sanctions against individuals and diamond sanctions, by 30 April. (The mandate of the UN Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI) continues until 30 July).

    The Council is expected to renew the mandate of the UN Mission in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI) which expires on 15 January 2008. The Council’s deliberations are expected to be guided by a new report of the Secretary-General on UNOCI (due in early January) as well as input from an upcoming meeting of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) scheduled for late January.

    By 15 October, the Council is expected to review the mandate of the UN Mission in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) and the French Licorne forces, as well as UNOCI troop levels. A report by the Secretary-General on progress towards implementing the Ouagadougou agreement is expected to be submitted ahead of the Council's deliberations.

    Before the mandate of the United Nations Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) expires on 16 July, the Council is expected to adopt a resolution adapting the role of the UN in Cote d'Ivoire in line with the changed circumstances in the country since the signing of the Ouagadougou Political Agreement on 4 March.
