January 2016

On 13 January, the Council was briefed by Special Representative Aïchatou Mindaoudou Souleymane on the latest UNOCI report. In light of the successful October 2015 presidential election, the report recommended a drawdown of UNOCI’s military component from 5,437 to 4,000 troops. On 20 January, the Council adopted resolution 2260 that approved the proposed troop reduction.

December 2015

On 17 December, while briefing the Council, Ambassador Cristián Barros (Chile), the chair of the 1572 Côte d’Ivoire Sanctions Committee, noted that Côte d’Ivoire had made important steps in re-establishing its democracy and in regaining control over its territory. He stated that a strong argument could be made for lifting the sanctions regime in the near future.

September 2015

On 11 September, the 1572 Côte d’Ivoire Sanctions Committee held informal consultations to discuss the interim update report of the Group of Experts.
