Côte d’Ivoire

April 2012

On 26 April the Council adopted resolution 2045 renewing the Côte d’Ivoire sanctions regime for 12 months. The resolution, which also renewed the mandate of the Panel of Experts, rolled over most of the measures in resolution 1980. On 18 April the chair of the 1572 Committee briefed Council members during consultations about the Committee’s activities and on the final report of the Panel of Experts monitoring the sanctions on Côte d’Ivoire.

January 2012

On 26 January the Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Côte d’Ivoire briefed the Council on the December 2011 legislative elections.

December 2011

On 14 December the Council adopted resolution 2025, urging the Liberian government to “improve its control over the gold sector and adopt the necessary legislation in this regard, and focus its efforts on establishing effective governance of the gold production sector.” On 9 December the Council discussed concerns about the activities of former Liberian mercenaries recruited and deployed by Gbagbo along the Côte d’Ivoire-Liberia border as underlined in the report of the Liberia Sanctions Committee’s Panel of Experts. The previous day, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative had briefed the Council on preparations for the elections.
