April 2014

On 24 April, Council members were briefed in consultations by Ambassador Cristián Barros (Chile), the chair of the 1572 Côte d’Ivoire Sanctions Committee, on the final report of the Group of Experts. On 29 April, the Council adopted resolution 2153, lifting the diamond embargo and partially lifting the arms embargo (S/PV.7163). It renewed for a year the financial and travel measures on targeted individuals as well as the sanctions on arms and lethal material, and it renewed for thirteen months the mandate of the Group of Experts assisting the 1572 Sanctions Committee.

March 2014 

The Sanctions Committee held an informal meeting on 21 March to discuss the elements to be included in a response to a note verbale dated 4 February 2014 from Côte d’Ivoire regarding its transition strategy towards the lifting of the diamond embargo. 

January 2014

On 27 January, the Security Council was briefed by Aïchatou Mindaoudou Souleymane, the Special Representative and head of UNOCI, on the latest report of the Secretary-General via video-conference. Ambassador Youssoufou Bamba (Côte d’Ivoire) also made a statement. As requested by resolution 2112, the Secretary-General’s report included refined strategic benchmarks to measure progress in the achievement of long-term stability in the country, as well as information on the ongoing analysis of the comparative advantages of UNOCI and the UN country team. The briefing was followed by consultations.
