June 2011

On 29 June the Security Council adopted resolution 1992 extending the redeployment of troops and helicopters from UNMIL to UNOCI until 30 September. On 23 June Luis Moreno-Ocampo formally submitted a request to open an investigation into crimes committed in Côte d’Ivoire following the elections in November.

May 2011

On 13 May, the Council adopted resolution 1981 extending the mandate of UNOCI until 31 July. It also extended until 30 June the temporary redeployment of military assets from UNMIL to UNOCI. President Alassane Ouattara was declared Côte d’Ivoire’s new president by the Ivorian Constitutional Council on 5 May, sworn into office as President of Côte d’Ivoire on 6 May and inaugurated on 21 May. On 3 May President Alassane Ouattara asked the ICC Prosecutor to investigate into serious crimes committed in the country since 28 November 2010. Meanwhile a DPKO-led interdepartmental assessment mission visited Côte d’Ivoire from 1-14 May. The international commission of inquiry established by the Human Rights Council in its resolution 16/25 visited Côte d’Ivoire from 4 to 28 May.
