    In January 2018, the Special Representative and head of UNRCCA Natalia Gherman, will brief Council members in consultations on key regional issues, including the threat of terrorism and extremism, the impact of the situation in Afghanistan, drug trafficking, trans-boundary water management, and tensions linked to border-related disputes.

    In June, the Special Representative and head of UNRCCA, Petko Draganov, will brief Council members in consultations on key regional issues, including the threat of terrorism and extremism, the impact of the situation in Afghanistan, drug-trafficking, trans-boundary water management, and tensions linked to border-related disputes. He is also expected to brief on the Secretary-General’s visit to Central Asia due to take place in the first half of June. UNRCCA was established in 2007 for an open-ended time period.

    In July, Council members are expecting a briefing by the special representative of the Secretary-General for Central Asia and head of UNRCCA, Miroslav Jenča. This will be the sixth briefing since the establishment of UNRCCA in December 2007 and will provide Council members with an update on the Centre’s activities in the past six months. No Council decision is expected.
