Overview

Russia will hold the presidency of the Council in June. An open debate on new trends in peacekeeping is planned, with a briefing by the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Hervé Ladsous.

Debates are to be held on:

  • the ad hoc international criminal tribunals, with briefings by the presidents and prosecutors of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR); and
  • the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) with a briefing by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and head of UNAMA Ján Kubiš.

Also in June, Council members plan to hold their annual consultative meeting with the members of the Peace and Security Council of the AU.
