22 September 2004 S/PRST/2004/33 This presidential statement recognised the important civilian role in conflict management and peacebuilding.
17 May 2004 S/PRST/2004/16 This was the presidential statement following the debate on peacekeeping operations, mandates resources. It recognised the need to take into consideration the views of TCCs and strengthen the relationship between those who plan, mandate and manage peace operations and the TCCs.
31 October 2001 S/PRST/2001/31 This statement on women, peace and security emphasised the importance of gender perspectives in policies and programmes addressing armed conflict, especially peacekeeping operations.
22 March 2001 S/PRST/2001/10 This was the presidential statement following the debate on “Ensuring an Effective Role of the Security Council in the maintenance of international peace and security, particularly in Africa."
31 January 2001 S/PRST/2001/3 This presidential statement decided to establish the Council's working group on peacekeeping operations.
16 September 1998 S/PRST/1998/28 This presidential statement set general standards for peacekeeping and stressed the need to be fully informed of peacekeeping activities carried out by regional or subregional organisations. It also focused on enhancing Africa's peacekeeping capacity and highlighted the problem of children in armed conflict.
25 September 1997 S/PRST/1997/46 This presidential statement noted that addressing the challenges of conflict in Africa required a comprehensive approach and called on the Secretary-General to produce a report to address the issue.
28 March 1996 S/PRST/1996/13 This presidential statement reiterated the desire for enhanced consultation and exchange of information between the Council and TCCs, noted that procedures previously agreed upon to meet this goal had not been fully implemented and agreed on additional procedures to facilitate communication between the Council and the TCCs.
3 May 1994 S/PRST/1994/22 This statement welcomed enhanced consultations and exchange of information between the Council and the TCCs regarding peacekeeping operations, including their planning, management and coordination. This presidential statement said that regional and subregional organisations should be taken into account when setting up new peacekeeping operations.
31 January 1992 S/23500 This statement underlined the need for all member states to fulfil their obligations in relation to arms control and disarmament, to prevent the proliferation of WMD; to avoid excessive accumulations and transfers of arms; emphasised the importance of ratification and implementation by states of international and regional arms control arrangements; and recognised that the proliferation of WMD constitutes a threat to international peace and security. It also requested the Secretary-General recommend ways to strengthen and make the UN more efficient.
