Update on Sanctions Committees
Monthly Forecast
In the month ahead, Council sanctions committees are expected to make progress on some of the recommendations of their expert panels, including the Somalia Monitoring Group, which issued a report on 4 May 2006; the Sudan Panel of Experts, which issued a report on 19 April 2006; the Al-Qaida/Taliban 1267 Sanctions Committee, which is due to send the Monitoring Team its report before the end of July; and the Democratic Republic of Congo Group of Experts. The Somalia Sanctions Committee is due to receive the final report of the Monitoring Group on the arms embargo, but no new action on sanctions is expected. The current mandate of the Monitoring Group expires 12 May. The Council is expected to renew the Group's mandate for another six months. Read more

An international conference on the Great Lakes region, initially scheduled for December, has been postponed with no new date set yet. However, the idea is emerging, promoted by Tanzania as Council President for January, of a major focus in the Council in January on the regional dimensions of the Great Lakes situation. Read more
