    The US (Council president in December) has scheduled a high profile meeting of the Council on Iraq on 15 December. US Vice President Joseph Biden is expected to chair the meeting. It was unclear at time of writing at what level other Council members would participate.

The UN Controller appears likely to brief the Council in an open meeting and Iraqi representatives may also address the Council. A follow-on closed meeting is also possible.     The mandate of UNAMI, the UN political mission in Iraq, expires on 7 August. Renewal for 12 months seems likely. The Council is also expecting the Secretary-General's regular ninety-day report on UNAMI in August. A briefing by Special Representative Ad Melkert is expected.

    The Council is expecting a report on the Development Fund for Iraq in July. It is likely that the UN Controller will brief Council members in informal consultations on the fund. No Council action is expected. An open meeting may be possible which would allow an Iraqi representative to speak.

    The Council is expecting a comprehensive progress report on Iraq and the Kuwaiti missing persons issue before 30 June. The activities of the high-level coordinator, who advises the Security Council on these matters, are currently funded through 30 June. The Council seems likely to extend the coordinator’s activities before the end of the month.

    The Council is expecting a report on Iraq and the Kuwaiti missing persons issue on 22 October. In October the mandate expires for the High-Level Coordinator advising the Security Council on this matter. The Council seems likely to renew the Coordinator’s mandate.

    By 6 November the Secretary-General is expected to submit his regular report on the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI). The Council is likely to be briefed by the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq, Ad Melkert, and to hold consultations following the briefing. No formal Council action is expected.
