Insights on the 1591 Sanctions Committee on Sudan
This afternoon Council members will have informal consultations on the interim report of the 1591 Sanction Committee on Sudan. This flows from resolution 1945 renewing the mandate of the panel of experts on 14 October 2010 when the Council requested the panel to provide an interim report within ninety days.
The report was delayed, however, because the full panel had not been appointed. In March the Council revised the timetable for the interim report to 31 March. Given that the panel has only just been constituted and panel members have not been able to enter Sudan as the Sudanese government has not approved their visas, the interim report is not expected to contain significant recommendations that could lead to Council action.
