Insights on the draft Israeli Settlements Resolution
A group of 120 co-sponsors, which includes most of the NAM countries and a number of UN members, have formally tabled a draft Security Council resolution on the Israeli settlements in Palestine. So far no European country has come forward as a co-sponsor. The resolution is not yet in blue and a vote is not expected imminently. The US response has been that the Council is not the right forum for this issue. But it remains to be seen whether the concerns are sufficiently strong as to lead to a US veto.
