Update Report No.1: Security Council Subsidiary Bodies

The Securirty Council on 26 February 2011 estabished a sanctions committee concerning the Libyan Arab Jamahariya. The committee will be chaired by HE José Filipe Moraes Cabral (Portugal) and vice-chaired by India.

The Security Council on 4 January 2011 agreed to elect the following chairpersons of Council committees, sanctions committees and working groups:

Selected Security Council Resolution

  • S/RES/1970 (26 February 2011) establised a sanctions commitee concerning the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya.
  • S/RES/1940 (29 September 2010) was the Security Council’s decision to terminate the remaining sanctions, contained in paragraphs 2, 4 and 5 of resolution 1171 (1998), and to dissolve the Committee established pursuant to resolution 1132 (1997) concerning Sierra Leone (chaired in 2010 by HE Nawaf Salam (Lebanon)).
