Demetris Christofias and Mehmet Ali Talat, the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot communities respectively, are scheduled to initiate comprehensive negotiations.

22-26 September

The next IAEA Board of Governors meeting is scheduled in Vienna.

Also expected in September:

  • A Secretariat briefing on the results of the Djibouti-Eritrea fact-finding mission is possible.
  • Sima Samar, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Sudan, is expected to present her report to the Human Rights Council.
  • An EU report to the Security Council on EUFOR Chad-Central African Republic is due.
  • The Middle East Quartet will meet in New York on the margins of the General Assembly.
