In September, the US and Panama, the co-penholders on Haiti, are expected to seek re-authorisation from the Security Council for the Gang Suppression Force (GSF). The GSF was first authorised for an initial period of 12 months on 30 September 2025 through resolution 2793 as a non-UN multinational mission to combat armed gangs in Haiti. The resolution also requested that the Secretary-General establish a UN Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) to provide support primarily to the GSF, but also to other entities, including the Haitian National Police (HNP) and Haitian armed forces on joint operations with the GSF, as well as to the UN Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH). The GSF succeeded the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti.

In July, the Security Council is expected to hold its 90-day briefing on the situation in Haiti. Special Representative and Head of the UN Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) Carlos Ruiz Massieu is expected to brief on recent developments in the country and on the Secretary-General’s latest report on BINUH, which is due on 14 July. The Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Monica Juma, is also expected to brief on the latest UNODC report on transnational organised crime, including illicit arms trafficking and financial crimes, in Haiti and the region. In September, the US and Panama, the co-penholders on Haiti, may seek authorisation from the Security Council for a reconfigured multinational mission to combat armed gangs in Haiti, as well as a related UN Support Office to provide logistical and operational support to the mission. This force may succeed the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti, the authorisation of which expires on 2 October.
