The Council met on 25 September to discuss a letter from the Brazilian ambassador regarding the situation in Honduras. On 28 June, President Zelaya of Honduras fled to Costa Rica following a coup just ahead of a referendum on a set of constitutional changes. He was replaced by Speaker of Congress, Roberto Micheletti. President Zelaya returned to Honduras on 21 September taking refuge in the Brazilian embassy. In a press statement the Council stressed the importance of international law and the inviolability of the Embassy of Brazil.
