Security Council Resolutions
  • S/RES/1949 (23 November 2010) renewed the mandate of UNIOGBIS until 31 December 2011.
  • S/RES/1876 (26 June 2009) the Council extended the mandate of UNOGBIS until 31 December and requested the Secretary-General to establish a UN Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS) to succeed UNOGBIS for an initial period of 12 months after that.
  • S/RES/1580  (22 December 2004) revised and extended the mandate of the UN Peacebuilding Support Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNOGBIS).
  • S/RES/1233  (6 April 1999) supported the decision of the Secretary-General to establish the UN Peacebuilding Support Office in Guinea-Bissau.

Presidential Statements

  • S/PRST/2010/15 (22 July 2010) expressed concern at the prevailing security situation and threats to constitutional order in Guinea-Bissau and called on the government to release immediately all those detained in the events of 1 April or prosecute them with full respect for due process. 
  • S/PRST/2009/29 (5 November 2009) welcomed the ongoing planning for the transition of UNOGBIS to an Integrated Peacebuilding Office (UNIOGBIS).
  • S/PRST/2009/6 (9 April 2009) welcomed the convening of the presidential election for 28 June 2009 and urged the government and all political actors to create conducive conditions for the holding of a free, fair, transparent and credible presidential election.
  • S/PRST/2009/2 (3 March 2009) condemned the assassination of President Vieira and the chief of the armed forces of Guinea-Bissau, and urged continued adherence to stability, constitutional order, the rule of law and the democratic process.
  • S/PRST/2008/37 (15 October 2008) welcomed the commitment of Guinea-Bissau’s Government to hold legislative elections on 16 November and conveyed the Council’s concern about pertinent challenges facing Guinea-Bissau.
  • S/PRST/2007/38 (19 October 2007) reaffirmed its support for efforts to consolidate peace in Guinea-Bissau, expressed concern about drug trafficking in the country and stated that it would consider Guinea-Bissau's request for inclusion on the Peacebuilding Commission's agenda.
