Security Council Resolutions

  • S/RES/1937 (30 August 2010) extended the mandate of UNIFIL for another year.
  • S/RES/1884 (27 August 2009) extended the mandate of UNIFIL for another year.
  • S/RES/1852 (17 December 2008) extended UNIIIC’s mandate until 28 February.
  • S/RES/1832 (27 August 2008) extended the mandate of UNIFIL until 31 August 2009. 
  • S/RES/1815 (2 June 2008) extended UNIIIC's mandate until 21 December 2008.
  • S/RES/1773  (24 August 2007) extended UNIFIL until 31 August 2008.
  • S/RES/1757 (30 May 2007) established the Tribunal under Chapter VII.
  • S/RES/1748 (27 March 2007) extended the mandate of UNIIIC until 15 June 2008.
  • S/RES/1701 (11 August 2006) called for a cessation of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel, reiterated its support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Lebanon, called for Israel and Lebanon to support a permanent ceasefire and long-term solution based on: respect for the Blue Line; security arrangements to prevent the resumption of hostilities including the establishment of an area free of weapons except than those of the Lebanese government and UNIFIL in South Lebanon; disarmament of all militias; an arms embargo; and the provision of all remaining maps of landmines in Lebanon in Israel’s possession. It also requested the Secretary-General to develop proposals to deal wit the Sheb’a farms issue and authorised a reinforcement of UNIFIL.
  • S/RES/1697 (31 July 2006) extended the UNIFIL mandate to 31 August 2006.
  • S/RES/1686 (15 June 2006) extended UNIIIC's mandate by one year.
  • S/RES/1680 (17 May 2006) strongly encouraged Syria to respond positively to the Lebanese request to delineate their common border and called for further efforts to disband and disarm Hezbollah and to restore fully the Lebanese Government's control over all Lebanese territory.
  • S/RES/1664 (29 March 2006) requested the Secretary-General to negotiate an agreement with the Lebanese government aimed at establishing a tribunal of an international character and submit a report to the Council on the implementation of this resolution.
  • S/RES/1655 (31 January 2006) extended the UNIFIL mandate to 31 July 2006 and urged Lebanon to take up the proposal to create a Joint Planning Cell.
  • S/RES/1644 (15 December 2005) extended UNIIIC's mandate by six months, requested reports on the progress of the investigation every three months and requested the Secretary-General to identify the nature and scope of assistance needed by Lebanon.
  • S/RES/1636 (31 October 2005) urged Syria to cooperate with the investigation and established sanctions against suspects in the assassination.
  • S/RES/1618 (4 August 2005) related to terrorism.
  • S/RES/1614 (29 July 2005) extended the mandate of UNIFIL until 31 January 2006 with no change.
  • S/RES/1595 (7 April 2005) established UNIIIC to investigate the 14 February 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri.
  • S/RES/1583 (28 January 2005) extended the mandate of UNIFIL until 31 July 2005 and expressed intention to review the mandate and structure of UNIFIL.
  • S/RES/1559 (2 September 2004) urged withdrawal of all foreign forces from Lebanon, disarmament of all Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias, extension of the Lebanese government’s control over all Lebanese territory, and free and fair presidential elections.
  • S/RES/1461 (30 January 2003) extended the mandate of UNIFIL and took note of the completion of the reconfiguration of UNIFIL.
  • S/RES/1337 (30 January 2001) extended the mandate of UNIFIL by six months, reduced the level of its military personnel and endorsed the reconfiguration of UNIFIL.
  • S/RES/1310 (27 July 2000) extended the mandate of UNIFIL by six months and endorsed the understanding that the Force would redeploy in South Lebanon.
  • S/RES/523 (18 October 1982) extended the mandate of UNIFIL by 3 months and authorised it to conduct humanitarian tasks.
  • S/RES/520 (17 September 1982) condemned the Israeli incursions and demanded an Israeli withdrawal.
  • S/RES/516 (1 August 1982) authorised the deployment of military observers in and around Beirut.
  • S/RES/509 (6 June 1982) demanded that Israel immediately withdraw all military forces from Lebanon.
  • S/RES/427 (3 May 1978) approved the Secretary-General’s request to increase the strength of UNIFIL.
  • S/RES/426 (19 March 1978) approved the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of resolution 425.
  • S/RES/425 (19 March 1978) called for strict respect for the international integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Lebanon, urged Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territory, and established UNIFIL.

  • S/PRST/2008/17 (22 May 2008) welcomed and strongly supported the Doha agreement.
  • S/PRST/2008/8 (15 April 2008) was a presidential statement regarding implementation of resolution 1701.
  • S/PRST/2007/47 (12 December 2007) was a presidential statement condemning the terrorist attack that claimed the life of Lebanese armed forces General François el-Hajj and killed and wounded others.
  • S/PRST/2007/46 (11 December 2007) expressed “deep concern at the repeated postponements of the presidential election in Lebanon.
  • S/PRST/2007/34 (20 September 2007) condemned the terrorist attack which killed parliamentarian Antoine Ghanem and others.
